Oak

Oak is known for its strength and durability, as well as its warm colour and open grain patterning.

  • Perfect for furniture - indoor and out.
  • It can have pretty grain patterning often revealed in the way that it is sawn from the log.
  • Small knots known as  'pips' and 'cats paw' are prized for their character.
  • Takes a clear finish well to bring out the 'honey' colour.
  • Takes a 'Raw' finish well to preserve the 'bare' look of the timber.
  • Grain can be opened up and lime wax applied - so the white stays in the growth rings.
  • Can be 'Ebonised' - when an iron solution is applied a chemical reaction occurs and stains the wood black.

We have a good supply of naturally grown Welsh Oak, which is Air-dried first and further conditioned in a Solar Kiln.

Alternatively, we can source through a local company importing kiln dried Oak from FSC certified forestries just across the channel in France.
